Naučnici su ljudi koji gledaju u živinu
Fotografije nauku najčešće ilustruju uz pomoć fotografisanih subjekata u belim mantilima, koji obično pomno gledaju u ono što izučavaju, što ih, veruju fotografi, i čini naučnicima. Njihov predmet interesovanja su obično obojene tečnosti, ali i živina i trava, te niz drugih živih i neživih objekata.
Ovakve foto-ilustracije su proizvele jedan zanimljiv pokret, pa pravi naučnici na Twitter-u postavljaju svoje omiljene fotografije iz ove oblasti, a uz #BadStockPhotosOfMyJob. Sve je počelo kada je Nicole Paulk, biohemičarka i profesorka na Kalifornijskom univerzitetu, pokušala da za jednu prezentaciju pronađe stock fotografije koje realno prikazuje ono čime se bavi, a u čemu nije uspela.

Umesto toga pronašla je fotografije poput one na kojoj „naučnici“ pilje u komade leda, što niko iz sveta nauke, pa čak ni onaj čije je glavno interesovanje baš led, nikada ne bi učinio, pa je tu fotografiju podelila na Twitter-u. Ispostavilo se da pored nje postoji još čitava serija sličnih ilustracija, pa se jedan tvit ubrzo pretvorio u pokret.
